Will global warming make world's poor wealthier, healthier, and live longer by 2030?According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, extreme temperatures lead to several serious diseases in certain areas. It can also increase air and water pollution, which in turn harm human health.

But, experts say that the most direct effect of climate change would be the impacts of hotter temperatures themselves, as for example, heart patients become more vulnerable then as one’s cardiovascular system must work harder to keep the body cool during hot weather. Some respiratory problems also increase with heat exhaustion.

* Disastrous consequences of global warming!

Will global warming make world's poor wealthier, healthier, and live longer by 2030?Similarly, though it is predicted that over the next 25 years -

• Annual AIDS deaths will soar from 2.8 million deaths in 2002 to 6.5 million worldwide in 2030!

Depression will be second only to AIDS as a cause of debilitating illness!

Tobacco-related deaths will increase from 5.4 million in 2005 to 8.3 million in 2030!

Smoking will kill 50% more people by 2030, than it currently does!

Pneumonia and pulmonary diseases like emphysema makes up the rest of the top five both then and now!

* Here are some good effects of global warming!

The good news has come from the World Health Organization, which says -

• With rising temperatures, the world’s poor will become wealthier, live longer and stop dying of infectious diseases, by around 2030!

• The risk of dying before the age of five could be halved across the world by then.

Though, the World Bank has predicted that the economic growth in Africa is bright with a growth of 2% per year (as opposed to the 0.5% per year achieved in the 1990s), the team factored in this; predicting of a ‘dramatic’ shift in dying from infancy to old age may not materialize in Africa, if the economic growth is much slower - perhaps due to a large economic impact of AIDS!

* But how good is the prediction?

In 1996, the WHO made its first long-range prediction of global health.

– It turned out to be wrong in several key respects - for example, most notably, there were more AIDS and less tuberculosis than predicted!

Colin Mathers of the WHO in Geneva, who led the study admits,

We’re not saying this is definitely what will happen at all... But health officials should have the best idea we can arrive at now of what seems likely to happen, so they can prepare.

Though nothing can be predicted to see it happening perfectly, still this can surely be predicted that the world is moving to a worser future, if global warming is not curbed at the right time — as scientists already say that it has returned to a point of no return!

The after-effects of global warming are more disastrous, compared to the negligible constructive ones.

Global Warming we all know will be disastrous in the future to come . But we truly cannot help it ; the pollutants which the automobiles spill into the environment are the biggest contributors to global warming and we all know it , right ! but then How many people in your area drive a Hybrid , no one does in my entire state ... just forget it folks , the world is in a helpless state on this issue and nothing can be done other than \’facing the heat\’.

Atul, u r right to say that “the world is in a helpless state on this issue” however, your view that “nothing can be done other than ’facing the heat” sounds dubious. Yes, apart from other factors, automobiles are contributing heavily towards this effect, and no one drives a hybrid in your state, but you’re just talking about the present scenario.

Yes, we can fight this:

If we analyze the technological advancements and the speed with which we’re imbibing these into our lifestyles, I’m sure the benefits would percolate through sooner than expected. Very soon, we’ll see complete elimination of fossil fuel use, replaced by electricity produced by green sources like advanced solar cells, trapping wind and hydro energy and what not. And, I’m sure that will be done and incorporated before fossil fuels breathe their last. In India too, we’ve already applied green Euro standards and almost all new vehicles come with ‘green’ certification, though we still have a long way to go. Now take the increasing use of LED bulbs, which are energy efficient, eco-friendly and more powerful. Once we used to burn wood and coal to fulfill our energy requirements and I’m sure no one ever imagined how fast use of LPG gas completely eliminated it, paying path for a green future.

And all these advancements are possible only because we’re damn serious and there are countless examples which would clear this fact. To be frank, I’m very optimistic about this issue and the recent reports and all the hullabaloo, though necessary, are mere encouraging signals, though true, that we must not lay down our arms and keep fighting. And, Irani too has pointed out above that in many a cases, reports have proved wrong and it’ll prove wrong all predictions soon, keep watching.

The figures quoted by you are amazing I am in shock upon reading that millions will die due to various illnesses. But what attracted my attention most was the depression. The change in life style work pressure are driving today’s young and old towards there coffins. There has to be a point at which the workforce will have to stand and demand a change in lieu of a healthier life options.
Ya AIDS will be there but in near future I think science will find a solution for it but a depression is a thing that can be cured on one-on-one basis and the second thing that world health org should not neglect

I think the threat of global warming is marching ahead precipitately and we are constantly being clutched under its horrendous talon. As far as the situation of poor people is concerned, I would like to say that before starting the phase of global warming too, starvation was singeing them and now the holocaust of global warming would further exacerbate their condition.

Vikas the predictions made above are for the next 25 years and it will be by the same time that we will see the gas- guzzlers bidding adieu ... what i mean to say is that the system in my state is so sloppy that they will start taking action when the harm will already be done .. i like your positiveness on the issue and hope the things happen as ascertained by you but looking at the level of corruption and non-awareness in the entire nation such concepts have always taken a back seat and this is bound to happen yet again .

The ministers will get crore\’s of rupees for such projects but the only thing that will happen is that their personal bank accounts will swell and we will only have around a thousand hybrids and an equal number of scandals through the next 25 years

A common view is that the current global warming rate will continue or accelerate. But the rapid warming in recent decades has been driven mainly by non-CO2 greenhouse gases, such as chlorofluorocarbons, CH4, and N2O, not by the products of fossil fuel burning, CO2 and aerosols. The reduction of non-CO2 GHGs could lead to a decline in the rate of global warming, reducing the danger of dramatic climate change.

There is an interesting concept that space scientist community is thinking to reduce the Global warming——- http://www.spacescan.org/entry/cooling-the-earth-with-a-cloud-of-small-spacecraft/

Thats a good news for poor at least in some way they will be happier than rich... But I fail to understand how will all this happen can you please help me out with some more details regarding this which can allow me to have a clear picture of the prediction.

Appreciating your question Disha, let me link things for you — not inform — as all are in the post.

See, we all know that the key driver of disease patterns is growing prosperity. Generally, as countries get richer, (as mentioned in the post– ‘the World Bank has predicted that the economic growth in Africa is bright with a growth of 2% per year (as opposed to the 0.5% per year achieved in the 1990s’), they can afford the hygiene and vaccination measures that wipe out diseases of poverty, mainly infectious diseases.

So, what remains are – (as mentioned in the post)—‘the most direct effect of climate change would be the impacts of hotter temperatures themselves, as for example, heart patients become more vulnerable then as one’s cardiovascular system must work harder to keep the body cool during hot weather’.

So, if the impact of AIDS does not slow down the economic growth (as predicted by World Bank) of poor countries like Africa, there will be a “dramatic” shift in dying from infancy to old age — as mentioned too in the post, thus can not only allow them live longer, but also make them wealthier.

Yes Pankja, you are exactly giving the information we all have been aware of these days... and have been the base of further findings of various research papers across the world... But, this finding is a recent study by the World Health Organization, who have their own reasonable explainations.
