Yes, the Tiger population was unexpected high, which is good news. But between 5-600 individuals is not a very high number when thinking about the potential being so much higher. Also there are still many threats to the tiger, besides illegal huntin and poaching, here in Russia Far East such as loss of habitat (mainly illegal logging), overharvesting of prey (deer), forest fires, and roads (giving easy access into tiger territory). These issues are becoming worse over time and reducing the tiger’s habitat. If nothing is done about these issues it is only a matter of time before the tiger population falls again. So let us hope that organizations such as Wildlife Conservation Society, WWF and local conservation organization can be successful in addressing these issues.
